Zora Stančič is a printmaker and visual artist who graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo in 1984 and completed a postgraduate specialisation in printmaking at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana in 1990. She studied further in Paris, Vienna, the United States and the Czech Republic. She is an associate professor of printmaking at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design, University of Ljubljana.
Her work explores the relationship between classical printmaking techniques and contemporary digital printmaking. She is known above all for her innovative approach to printmaking as an open, experimental medium, one that goes beyond its traditional limits to include drawing, photography, digital technology, animation and spatial installation. For her, a print is not merely a technical impression but a visual thought that opens space for reflection. Her work often explores memory, identity and everyday experience with subtle humour and irony, and is socially engaged, touching on topical questions of health, wellbeing and states of mind today.
